Premise

Why a man would open a door and let you get in first?

It's about pride. What is pride? If you think it deeply, the nature of pride actually, is created by feeling stronger. It's a way to show off their unequal power.

Why to show off power? if think it positively, one important thing would be built by practicing this, self, or say, self by confident. If think it negatively, it's because of not enough confident.

Why to build confident? you could learn and fight for everything with less scare, it's a kind of learning ability.

Concluded, pride is a thing to gain confident.
~~~~~~
Beyond the above situation, let's look at the below questions:
Question 1. To open the door or to get in the door, who is more confident?
Question 2. Only one people could open the door, it's here you and your best friend, which way you should choose?
Open the door would be an example only. Take a step further then we will find that pride is built by the power of giving and it could be trained by practice.
Question 3. If you are a person who consider your friend's future and try to protect his pride, would you choose to give or take?
Question 4. If you choose to take, are you taking your friend's advantage or giving your friend advantage?
Chances are limited in the world. As if the case of open door, only one people in a relationship can gain the pride. Which means, gaining pride would take off other's pride so as decreasing other's learning ability.
Pride are used as a tool to build up regions in the world as well in the same deduction. When time goes, by human inertia, true pride is built and the region is built.
It's actually a dilemma that we are facing in everyday's life. It could be unethical even we are giving when you do care and try to protect others, but if we are taking, we are sacrificing our pride. Sounds ridiculous, but every action could be contradicting in "common sense" if you could really put on the affection to others.
Open door is just an example. If you think deeper about human emotions, there would be no common sense and model answer. That's why we say, understanding each other is the hardest thing in the world.
Further study
With growing of human civilization, etiquette is created for solving this problem. We learn etiquette so that we can get control on giving and taking. It gives the rules so that we would understand how to choose give and take by different time, different situation and to different people. It provides us a better way to keep a relationship equally so that we could keep the relationship longer. When a people is good in etiquette, we would use a adjective to identify him, mature. So, what is the nature of mature? we learned to count the value of relationships.
There is secret to be mature. It takes two steps, first to find out the value of your self so that you will know what you want and able to give or take, and second to practice how you are giving and taking by when, where and who considering others' world and your owns. Everyone can learn and practice etiquette by human instinct.
But before all of that, you got to be interested in two things, 1. your own self, so that you are eager to build up your value and, 2. relationships, so that you are eager to turn your own value into social value.
However, every interest in the world needed to be nurtured. That's why it always take time for a people to be mature no matter how talent he is. It must take times especially when people think themselves are different. The only fastest way to be mature is that you need to persuade yourself is simple so that you won't feel barriers in switching value to social value. If you are artist, the case even worse as a true artist is not interested even on their own self at all but only the works they intended to, like technique of drawing or pure knowledge. Anyway, it would be fine for everyone if they start to care about a relationship. Just need some time to take one more step.
No matter what, etiquette or mature is just a way we could learn to present to the world. We can build up relationships by it. But, conflicts are appearing in humans that no one could escape. So, what is relationship in true meaning? only trust could help.
